Water Tutorial

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 10, 2011, 12:22 PM
Oh yeah, that's exactly what I made; a water tutorial!
->link to the tutorial<-
Finally! I haven't made any new tutorials in such a long while, whew! But I think I'll be doing a few during the upcoming year. I've got a whole bunch of great ideas from you guys, and I finally feel like I have the necessary skills to make a couple of those tutorials.

I'll upload the Water Tutorial here on DA too some day, but I've got to wrap it up in a neatly designed little package first, and I have absolutely no inspiration for that right now. It would just end up as something un-inspired and bloopy. Eh, it still might end up as something bloopy , but a little bit of  inspiration would be nice anyways.

Critiques are, of course, welcome in case there's something blurghish going on with the tutorial. Helps me make better tutorials in the future. :3

~

By the by, I bought the worst bag of candy ever a couple of days ago! It's so bad that I still haven't managed to finish it and I'm so disgruntled that I'm actually writing about it here, urrgh. Wine gums with natural flavor, my ass... sure, if the flavor they used was monkey bile.
I think I'll just stick with my two Swedish sweet-hearts from now on: Ahlgrens Bilar and Jordgubbs-Snören! Man, some times I feel like my motto is "never try anything new". Talk about lamest motto ever...

A Redtail's Dream
Published pages: 63
Chapter 2
Updated Weekly

~

I'm not uploading the
pages of my webcomic
"a Redtail's Dream" here
on Deviantart for one simple
reason: that would just lead to my
whole gallery becoming completely
spammed by comic pages, and that
would make kittens sad. After all, 1-2
pages a week accumulates quite a pile of
stuff in a pretty short amount of time. And
we don't want sad kittens, now do we?

I see what you mean about it taking hours.
V. accurate and useful but labour intensive.
Thank you very much.
I have it bookmarked and am going to practice some of the techniques tonight.

Ooooh, I love it. Finally a water-tutorial not involving a beach or occult photoshop functions. Drawing water without reference is a pain - but thanks to your tutorial it will be much less of one!

Wow, your tutorial was so awesome! I really love your hazy backgrounds, and the way you've seemed to capture natural scenes. I mostly do simple backgrounds, because I just can't seem to do them quite right, but this will definitely help.

Thanks again!

Aside from the occasional spelling mistakes and a couple of lols I have had while reading, this is a tutorial/journal I would definitely :+fav: for future use. Thank goodness there's a good use for the new function.

Please put this on DA so I can fave it! That is EXTREMELY helpful! And I love what I'm reading of your comic so far, though I feel horrible for the boy and his dog. That little fox can be annoying. :D

Really great tutorial, i'm sure it'll help me out a bunch some day; probably when I learn to shade things half-decently. ^^

and what the shit.. WINE gums?? Are you serious? ... As in, fermented-grape-flavoured-candy? o.o;

..I think you should mail me one for sampling. You wouldn't even need to worry about them going bad mid-transit either, because i'm affraid the process of them turning bad might actually make them taste nicer.. and then I would be eating this heavenly-flavoured candy, wondering what the crap you were on about. xD

Nah, I don't think they really have anything to do with wine for real, they're just called that for some reason.

The odd thing is, they aren't even very heavily flavored at all, some of theme felt were cheving pieces of soft erasers. But then, after chewing for a moment a really bitter sensation started to sneak up on your taste buds and finally invade your whole mouth! You would not enjoy it, mark my words!

thanks so much for this, its a really good tutorial :D also i really like ur style!! its a lot like what im striving for in my own work, im trying to get away from doing black sketches and black line art, i want to go more in the direction of a painterly look but still hav some outlines, like how u have in the reflections piece, where the swans really stand out with their outlines and everything else fades with more subtile outlines...its so beautiful
