Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Mon Aug 25, 2014, 11:07 AM

Well what the heck, looks like I haven't poked my nose into this place for over a year. Maybe I should slowly get into the habit of uploading stuff here again, huh? A ton has happened since I last logged in, which is probably why DA kinda fell off my radar for a while. Basically this went down in my life since last year:

-I managed to graduate from university with a bachelor's degree in graphic design, hooray!

-Finished "A Redtail's Dream" (that comic I've previously been posting here). That's 556 pages of comic, made in about 2 years!

-Moved away from home and to Sweden pretty much right after graduating. So I'm living on my own and being an "adult" for the first time ever.

-Since people wanted a book version of "A Redtail's Dream" I ran a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo  last autumn to pay for the printing of it. It went incredibly well, about 1200 copies of the book were preordered via that AAGH! O_O

-Started my new and ongoing webcomic "Stand Still. Stay Silent" not too long after the print drive (so less than a year ago) and also started working on getting the aRTD book ready for print.

-During the first few months of this year I got the book printed (2000 copies in total), then spent like a month packing and shipping out the 1000+ books to the campaign backers. It was a crazy ordeal, I was so stressed out the whole spring! But all went well and everyone got their books, yay! Also drawing and updating SSSS during the whole time, of course.

Aaaand right now I'm pretty much a full time webcomic artist, living off the profits from selling the leftover aRTD books (btw I still have a couple hundred left, but I'm taking a break from selling them for a while). I'm currently updating "Stand Still. Stay Silent" at a pace of 5 pages every week, and in fact we're soon approaching a point where I can start getting book 1 of that ready.

~

So yup, that's what's happened. Good things, basically, and lots and lots of work. I-I think I might be a professional artist now?

Anyway, I'll try to remember to upload stuff here again. Starting...today? :3

Spring Update

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 15, 2013, 10:49 AM
Yeaaa, so I pretty much had to update this journal because the last one is from back when I first started updating A Redtail's Dream six times a week, which is literally several hundred comic pages and almost a year ago.

A quick overview of where we're at right now: page 400 goes up tomorrow (woop!), I've drawn just over 500 pages already and only have about 50 left before this whole comic is done. Right after that I'll start the next comic project which will launch by the end of this year. So that's what's going on now! Oh right, I'll hopefully also be graduating next month. Those of you who follow the comic on the site probably know this already, but I figured I would give a quick overview to those of you who don't.

So that's that! You can read the comic over here on its own little site, I don't want to spam my Deviantart page with a new page every day.

You can also follow me on twitter to keep up with my general arting stuff and comicking news. Sometimes I even post sketches and stuff.

And finally there's the facebook page for the comic where I basically just post the page updates as a convenient feed. :3

Happy springtime everyone!

Chapter covers for my webcomic "A Redtail's Dream":

I'm back, and all that. Also: comic update info.

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 4, 2012, 4:39 AM

I really can't be having a journal entry up that basically says "I'll be gone for a month, byyye, please come back later". Especially since I know most people on DA basically just skim stuff in a hurry, so even if it said June it could still confuse someone. Hence, this little entry.

Long story short, my little summer vacation is over, and from now on I'm updating the comic at a speed of six pages per week, basically daily. A handful of people have been wondering how I can manage that, but it's really not very hard. One page takes me about 8 hours to make, which means I still have 8 hours each day for other stuff if I keep my sleepy-time at a very decent 8 hours too. Hm, I guess that's 8 hours for each part of the day. Which also means I should be able to keep this pace up even after school starts up, so whoop-de-doo!  : B

In conclusion, have fun reading the new chapter, and the encouragement you guys have been giving really helps me keep the energy up to draw a new page each day. =^_^=

June update schedule info , AKA summer vacation.

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 7, 2012, 10:42 AM

Yes, I'll be out of town for three, four weeks, with no internet connection, so there obviously won't be any new aRTD pages during that time. I'll be back right at the beginning of June, and after that I'll be updating at a frequency of four pages per week. That's right, four whole pages. :3

Obviously I've got all this info on the main site (below page 143) but I know there's a whole bunch of people who only check the comic when I post something new here. Whenever I stay away from DA for like a week, there's always a couple of people sending notes asking if I've stopped updating, even if there's  several new pages right on the main site. x3 So, I figured it would be best to post this info here too.

~

Aaanyway, that should be all. I'll save posting any chapter 4 related pictures for until I get back, so even if there's a little thumbnail for the cover of chap4 right below, it's not actually uploaded on DA yet and the link leads to the one on the main site. But eh, same thing.

Have a good first month of summer, everyone!

Stars Tutorial

Journal Entry: Tue May 15, 2012, 4:30 AM
Yup yup, new tutorial from me. Link to it on my website:

I'll eventually make DA-compatible version of it, but that will have to wait. I can't exactly use the same kind of layout format as with my previous tutorials, as this one has waaaay too varying kinds of images to fit into a mold like that and still look good. And holy moly, that's a lot of text! Took me several hours to write! But at least I've explained things by depth, hrrmh. o_o

Indeed, I drew that image over a month ago, and I've had the all the necessary pieces of the tutorial lying around, ready to be tutorialized, ever since. But with everything else going on it had to wait. But now the tutorial is done and I'm going to have some icecream! And then it's time to draw yet another comic page...

~

Which leads me to this: Eeee! I can't believe the cover page for the prologue chapter got a DD! I'm so happy! I've been smiling so bad that my whole face hurts. When I logged in to post this journal and saw my message box all filled up with stuff I was like "Huh? I didn't submit anything yesterday? Damnit, stupid message centre malfunctioning again!" and then I was like: that one picture of the while gorilla going "LOL!". Except in a dumb, giggly way. xB

*skips off into icecream land*

Facebook page

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 17, 2012, 2:08 AM
Yeah, I'm one of those people who have never had or used any kind of facebook page. But apparently that's something people use for stuff these days so I decided to stop being so tardy with my internet-developement. x<

Which means I now made a facebook page for "a Redtail's Dream" where I shall post a little notification whenever a new page is up for those who prefer this venue over the RSS feed.

View the facebook page for "a Redtail's Dream"

If anyone has knowledge on what else a facebook page could be useful for I'll be thankful for tips, as my knowledge of FB is pretty much "people reconnect with estranged friends and play a lot of Farmville. The End".  o_o

A little thing from way back in 2005

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 26, 2012, 2:59 AM
I've been trying to rest my drawing hand a bit for a couple of weeks (always good to do that once in a while) and needed something to occupy myself with. Something I could do with my left hand. So, last weekend I did whast I've been meaning to do for ages: I translated one of my very first comics!

That's right! Now you all get to see what kind of awfulness I drew when I was 15. Sure, the pages don't exactly represent my best work or anything, as I clearly remember drawing them with a "no sketching, no thinking"-mindset. But still. Yikes!

The story was also one of those "If I start here, and don't plan anything ahead, where will I end up?" -kind of things, so this is apparently how the storyteller in me worked. Enjoy 18 pages of secret agents, aliens and idiots. Lots and lots of idiots. And crappy art, but don't enjoy that.

I'm not uploading the
pages of my webcomic
"a Redtail's Dream" here
on Deviantart for one simple
reason: that would just lead to my
whole gallery becoming completely
spammed by comic pages, and that
would make kittens sad. After all, 2
pages a week accumulates quite a pile of
stuff in a pretty short amount of time. And
we don't want sad kittens, now do we?

Two originals for sale

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 16, 2012, 3:01 AM
That's right, I've finally decided to let go of a couple of my original watercolor/ink paintings instead of keeping them stored in fancy black folders under my bed for all eternity *cough* hoarder-alert * cough*. After all, art should be enjoyed and looked at, and I'm not performing any of those two tasks myself here. So what the hey.

The pieces in question are "Shipcatville" and a more recent one, "Heading south". Both are about the size of a standard A3, give or take, and are priced at 250$ on ebay:

So, if you feel like giving one of these two a new home, then click click! They'll of course both be signed by me and come with an imaginary hug.

On a completely different note, I've found yet another woderful show to add to my humogous list of american sitcoms I love and always shall love; Raising Hope! The completely dysfunctional, yet surprisingly functional family - formula works on me every time, and this one turned out to be particularly heart-warming. Just wanted to share my joy over this lettle pearl, and recommend it to fellow sitcom-enjoyers. (And it's got no annoying laughing track either! Score!)
But nothing beats "Parks and Recreation" in my book, no sir.

Little Christmas present

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 23, 2011, 7:22 AM
Whooppee, it's Christmas holidays again! *dances and skips* No wait, that's not me. This is me: "Oh, so it's Christmas again. Great, now I get to sleep."
That's right, I've finally reached the end station of the magical train ride into grumpy, cynical lady-town.
Ah, what a joy it was back in the days when this time of year made me go " Yaaay! Family, candy, food, colorful lights and so much STUFF!", then the phase of" Yaay, candy!". Now it's just "Yaay, no school."
(Not that I don't love my school, mind you, I just don't love being there as much as I love not.) being there´.

~
Aaanyway, I did have a little Christmas present for you guys: ten new pages of "A Redtail's dream". Yup, my page buffert became a bit bloated again, though I would slim it down by posting a whole chunk of pages in one sitting.

So without further ado,
Merry Christmas and Happy new year
God Jul och Gott nytt år
Hyvää Joulua ja Onnellista uutta vuotta

to everyone.

Water Tutorial

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 10, 2011, 12:22 PM
Oh yeah, that's exactly what I made; a water tutorial!
->link to the tutorial<-
Finally! I haven't made any new tutorials in such a long while, whew! But I think I'll be doing a few during the upcoming year. I've got a whole bunch of great ideas from you guys, and I finally feel like I have the necessary skills to make a couple of those tutorials.

I'll upload the Water Tutorial here on DA too some day, but I've got to wrap it up in a neatly designed little package first, and I have absolutely no inspiration for that right now. It would just end up as something un-inspired and bloopy. Eh, it still might end up as something bloopy , but a little bit of  inspiration would be nice anyways.

Critiques are, of course, welcome in case there's something blurghish going on with the tutorial. Helps me make better tutorials in the future. :3

~

By the by, I bought the worst bag of candy ever a couple of days ago! It's so bad that I still haven't managed to finish it and I'm so disgruntled that I'm actually writing about it here, urrgh. Wine gums with natural flavor, my ass... sure, if the flavor they used was monkey bile.
I think I'll just stick with my two Swedish sweet-hearts from now on: Ahlgrens Bilar and Jordgubbs-Snören! Man, some times I feel like my motto is "never try anything new". Talk about lamest motto ever...
