Locked Shelter by MinnaSundberg Locked Shelter by MinnaSundberg
So, I'm trying to find some kind of neat and comfortable comic-art style for the graphic novel I've been planning for a couple of years now, and will be doing once I'm done drawing "a Redtail's Dream". Which will be in about a year or so if all goes according to my master plan. The scene depicted here has nothing to do with anything though, only the style has something to do with something.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with what I've got here, and thankfully I'll have a whole year to develop before I have to put my (by then hopefully amazingly glorious)skills to some serious use.

Aaand I've got a few work-in-progress pictures to show, for those who are interested: -Link-

Oh yeah, the dude in the picture is going to freeze to death. No miracle rescue for this guy. And I really want to spell "rescue" with a "q" in there somewhere, but that would be wrong so I won't. Okiedoke, time to go to bed, got to go to school tomorrow. Typography classes are exhausting enough as they are.

The image reminds me a lot of the little planet outposts in the Mass Effect video game. Although usually they're surrounded by giant turrets and little men with weapons...but I digress. Awesome image!

I'm going to ignore the last two lines in your image description and pretend that a guard noticed him in time and let him in out of the kindness of his heart. What good is fiction without miracles?

But I love this picture and if you are really going to make a graphic novel I shall buy it. :) I've been watching your works for a few years now and your progress has been amazing. I always love how you can create the atmosphere of an image and how well you can make textures such as fur or feathers.

You won't even need to buy it, I'm planning on making it primarly as a free webcomic. ^_^

Can't figure out how to edit my comment - how did you draw the lines using the line tool? Steady hand or did you rotate and draw lines that way? Just thought it was interesting on your blog that's all, STILL, Bloody good work!!!

With "line tool" i refer to the tool that automatically makes straight lines by drgging your cursor from point a to point b, no idea what its official name is. The parent tool is the pen tool though (for vector stuff), that much I know. No steady hands or rotating needed, it's like using a ruler. ^_^

Very nice, just a note, it took me a while to see the person at the door, maybe you should have used a different colour for the person to make it stand out from the door.

You're right, I was debating with myself if I should make him/her a bit more visible, in the end I chose not to because of general laziness. And the foot steps are pretty clear too.

Wait whooa. That's amazing, so cooold.
So. uh. you just. sketched that? Did you even use perspective line-thingies or whatever? I don't understand how people can just sketch machinery like that, animals sure, they're mainly organic shapes but machines and buildings have to be so... Eh, I don't know, lots and lots of practice I guess.

Perhaps you could do a tutorial someday to explain how to start practicing buildings and human structures (for us strictly organic matter drawing folk). If anything I could just use the words of confidence.

Wow -- at first I'm like meh, more reasonably cool concept art, and then as I'm clicking out I see the guy, and I have to click back in. Bam! There's a whole story (which a good scene should be) wrapped up in this and it snagged me. Solid.

The poor dude, that's desolate. This is a really cool style, it's a nice mix of lines and blended brushwork. Most times I see pictures of industrial sorts of architecture I tend to lose focus on the buildings but this is really attractive to look at. I couldn't tell you why I'm afraid, just that I really like the depth(?) of the piece

Nice work with colors and perspective. I love the amount of texture there is to this, it looks great!

The viewing angle of this piece is great, I love how it's more dynamic than most. One thing to mention, though. You say he has no chance of being rescued here, but the way the viewpoint is set, with that bit of metal in the near-foreground, it feels like someone's standing right where the viewer is, which could give some misleading hope. A view further out with less to anchor the eye near the viewer's "position" might serve to up the emotion of his fruitless desperation.

Of course, you could also pair this particular view as-is with another panel of nefarious glowing eyes or something... then the watcher isn't exactly good for him V^^V But that's probably overdone, having a beastie sneak up on the poor shivery dude just inches away from warmth and security... Or maybe feet away, that door looks thick XD

All that said, though, I DO like this picture, and this style :3 I look forward to seeing what you end up using it for!

The setting looks quite intriguing.

I wonder if it's "just" some secret hi-tech facility hidden deep in snow desert, or actually some ancient/sci-fi civilisation building... (always liked those)

I shiver, just looking at this picture. Lots of wind and snow and the cold hard metal pillar really come together in a blizzard-y effect. I dunno. I'm not sure if I know what I'm talking about, I just know that this is really awesome. :D Great job! It looks like a neat promising style, and I'd definitely be interested in the graphic novel, based off art alone.
