Hi there MinnaSundberg! I'm currently working with a poetry publication called the Clay Bird Review, and we loved this piece of yours! My colleagues and I were wondering whether we might have your permission to match up your piece with a poem and post it on our Facebook page! Your Deviantart name will also be listed up there and we will send you a link to the posting so you can see it for yourself! Please just send us a message back with your answer.
This is soooo well done. I especially love how you laid everything out and how you balanced the colors. I would never had guessed that this is your first flamingo picture! However, I hope you don't mind a critique coming from an amateur... there are two things I think you could have done a better job on. 1-the 'feel' of the body feathers and the wing feathers seem totally different, like its not done for the same piece. The body is more detailed and soft, while the dark parts of the wings look... artificial? 2-The chest feathers look a bit more like fur than feathers to me. I know that you weren't looking for critiques, but I like this pic a lot and think that it is soooo close to perfection. Please keep up the great work!
Are you kidding, I LOVE critique, and welcome it at any time, on any piece. :3 So thanks for your terrific comment, and you're absolutely right about the chest feathers. In my pursuit to achieve some sort of movement in the image, I ended up deviating bit too much from what actual flamingo feathers look like.
Simply remarkable. The mood is well set with the colors, and as many have mentioned I adore the lighting you chose for this piece because it makes it seem so ominous. If this is indeed a commission for a book cover, I already want to give it a thorough read!
