Illustration of Puppy-Fox, Hannu and Ville beneath the Birds' path.

So, I recently made the discovery that there exists ink that is not black. Yeah, I'm 22 years old, and just now discovered the wonder of colorful ink, I live under a rock. Once upon a time I went to the store to buy another vial of the regular, black stuff, and BY MY STARS; there were vials of red and orange and green and blue and yellow and WHITE ink right next to the black ones! Crazy!
Too bad I didn't have enough money to buy several of them, I really needed the black one (and a new tip for my dipping pen) to be able to continue drawing new pages for the comic, which meant I could only grab one additional item. Oh, the pain!
After a lot of staring, pondering, restless movements and looking like a shoplifter, I finally decided on the blue one! But I'm definitely going to try out the white ink one day soon, I don't even understand how that works and can't stand the mystery.
So yeah, I wanted to try out my glorious new, blue ink right away, so I drew this. But I think I need to thin it out with some water next time, the lines got waaay too dark (almost black, really) in most places, and with the watercolors on top most of the blueish effect got lost somewhere. Still, pretty neat stuff.

Oh and hey, thanks for all the happy birthday-wishes yesterday, you guys really made my day. As did meringue cake, that was heavenly delicious.

I'm afraid I don't have a print available for this one, I don't even think I have a file with a high enough resolution to offer one at all. :/

I LOVE Emerald and Ruby inks! ^^ (Sapphire is a bit too intense for what I do sometimes.) I use them in map-making and they have a fabulous effect on the paper I use. You may also be interested in using Gold inks. They, too, have a neat effect.
Also, last bit, you might try watered-down acrylic in a pinch. I use it as a very cheap alternative to sumi-e ink when I do Chinese Brush Paintings.
Final bit: Love Your Works. =3

I used to think the same about the crazy white ink, but now I think it is meant to be used on light surfaces. Btw delightful piece :)

Colored ink is great. I used to do paintings with colored inks, with white ink for highlights and such. And I use walnut ink for a lot of things.

I really love colourful inks! I have several of them they are all from Koh-I-noor. :) And the white is pure magic, mine leaves only a very light white, so I have to paint many layers with it, but the finish product is so shiny! :D So I can totally recommend it!

They should be relieved that it's only feathers that are falling on them  Unless the birds get a little excited....

Belated Happy Birthday, by the by :)

Is there anything that's not funny to Puppy-Fox? ;P Only flaw I see here is that the one feather resting up against Puppy-Fox has his body-line visible through it. Everything else looks great!

I bet he's kind of sulky whenever he's being grounded.

Whoops, I was going to fix that with acrylics, but apparently my brain leaks like a bucket without a bottom. x3

Well, I can't complain about that; I've been totally scatterbrained, lately! Trying to go in five directions at once and I think I'm getting lost. I'm hoping to catch up on edits this week!

Now... where was I going?

So, not to be an ignorant idiot, but does the whole fox-family thing have some sort of basis in Finnish mythology?

Vaguely. The tale about where northern lights stem from involves a fox being late for a meeting at the council of foxes, who runs so fast that his tail hits sparks that light up the sky. I've simply mixed that with the belief and worship of animal spirits that has existed in pretty much every culture at some point in history (so obviously not a specifically Finnish thing), and tadaa: I've got my council of spirit-foxes who take care of the northern lights.
Oh, and I made them a family, because a random munch of foxes just isn't as much fun.

Oh, happy late birthday!
I also discovered color ink at about the same age(I knew about it's existence, I mean, there had to be,what did people paint with before if not? ... yeah lots stuff I didn't knew back then either =P we're talking about the pre-historic days before internet prominence =P). Unfortunately since I'm so clumsy and color inking is so messy(that thing really can make a stain and won't go away that easily, so beware!) I haven't used it as much as I would like to :(

very beautiful as is! though i agree: it would be interesting to see what it would be like with the ink diluted a bit more... still, looks fantastic!

Drawing on high or medium quality water color paper is great to avoid bleeding, and even if the surface is a bit rough and feels uncomfortably "bumpy" to draw on you get used to it in a while.

I can wholeheartily recommend the brand "Bockingford" for this kind of watercolor paper, but basically anything a bit pricier than garbage-brand blocks have worked well for me so far. :3

I REALLY recommend getting some walnut ink. I have a friend who got some and it makes the most gorgeous, rich brown I have ever seen.
